Drama Therapy Coalition for Justice
“As more people of color raise our consciousness and refuse to be pitted against one another, the forces of neo-colonial white supremacist domination must work harder to divide and conquer.”

Drama Therapy Coalition for Justice at a Glance
Justice- Solidarity- Activism
The Drama Therapy Collation for Justice (DTC4J) was formed earlier this year in response to the social-political movements that were enlivened after the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and many others. We knew the time was now and we had to address the systemic issues in our own community. As a group of passionate and social justice-minded students and alumni, we set out to create change in our school, California Institute of Integral Studies, and the larger Drama Therapy community. In the months since our creation, we have already influenced the way in which our department is functioning in regards to antiracism and anti-oppression. We have already led a training for both faculty and students titled “Diversity and Anti-oppression: In and Out of the Classroom”. This training gave space for students and faculty in the CIIS Drama Therapy Department to air grievances and learn from each other's diverse experiences. It opened up a dialogue to support everyone in learning and growing from understanding how to be anti-racist in the therapeutic setting, in the classroom, and in life.

“A true revolution of values will soon cause us to question the fairness and justice of many of our past and present policies. ... A true revolution of values will soon look uneasily on the glaring contrast of poverty and wealth. With righteous indignation, it will look across the seas and see individual capitalists of the West investing huge sums of money in Asia, Africa, and South America, only to take the profits out with no concern for the social betterment of the countries, and say, "This is not just." It will look at our alliance with the landed gentry of South America and say, "This is not just." The Western arrogance of feeling that it has everything to teach others and nothing to learn from them is not just.”
― Martin Luther King Jr.
